Arbor Networks was acquired in August 2010 by Tektronix Communications, a Danaher operating company.

In October 2014, Danaher sold Arbor Networks, Tektronix, and part of Fluke to Netscout. [news]

As an independent company

Arbor Networks is a computer network security firm headquartered in Chelmsford, MA, but with a sizable presence in Ann Arbor - 72 employees at the beginning of 2008. The office is currently out on South State St, just north of the 777 Building. This building houses Arbor Networks' engineering teams. The Arbor Networks office used to be in the center of Ann Arbor, on the 2nd and 6th floors of the City Center building. Before that, it was on the top floor corner of State Street and Liberty Street, above what used to be Gratzi, and is now Starbucks.

On January 22, 2008, the Michigan Economic Growth Authority awarded Arbor Networks a 10-year, $1.5 million tax credit package as part of a deal for Arbor Networks to expand in Ann Arbor rather than Boston. The expansion would involve 56 new jobs and $14 million in investment in a Michigan site over the next few years - but that site may not be in downtown Ann Arbor, based on lack of available office space for the growing company.

Arbor Networks was founded in 2000 as a spinoff from University of Michigan research conducted under a DARPA grant.

In the news

Arbor Networks has its roots in Ann Arbor: The firm was co-founded here by Farnam Jahanian, a University of Michigan professor and chair of the electrical engineering and computer science department. Jahanian still serves as the firm’s chairman of the board, but the Ann Arbor facility now is Arbor Networks’ research and development division. The company is headquartered in Chelmsford, Mass., with European and Middle-East operations based in London and with its Asia operations in Singapore.
