Beakes is a short street that most probably never notice the name of, despite the fact that thousands travel it each day. This one-way street carries traffic coming into downtown over the Broadway Bridges to Fifth Avenue and Main Street.

Beakes Street is possibly named after Samuel W. Beakes, who served in the US House of Representatives from 1913-1919.

Beakes is the straight-line continuation of Broadway from the south end of the Broadway Bridges, with Summit Street, Detroit Street, Division Street, and High Street also intersecting Broadway and Beakes at this point.
