Dominick Lanza was hired as Ann Arbor Fire Chief in March 2010; he announced his resignation effective March 2011.

Four Ann Arbor Fire Department employees finished their last day on the job this week, the latest casualties of the city's budget struggles. Those being laid off include three firefighters and one management assistant, said Fire Chief Dominick Lanza, who declined further comment.

When the Ann Arbor City Council meeting began Monday evening, Dominick Lanza was at his new house, watching movers unload boxes. About an hour later, he was in front of City Council, swearing to protect residents as the city’s new fire chief.

Lanza is a retired assistant chief for the Broward Sheriff's Fire Rescue in Broward County, Fla. He worked for that department for 33 years before retiring in October 2007.
