Help Clean the Huron!

The Friends of the Huron-Oakland will hold its annual “Huron River Clean-Up” effort again this year.  Mark your calendars for Saturday August 16, 2014 from 7:30am - 2:00pm at the Kensington Group Camp site located on Martindale Rd. in Milford Township.

The Huron River and its surrounding ecosystems play an important part in the health, welfare, and very existence of the Milford area and surrounding communities.  Our mission is to work collectively to inform, educate, and physically reduce the damage that occurs to the Huron River and its systems.  We are involved to ensure that not only our children, but people of generations to come will be able to enjoy the Huron as well.

Every year, we enlist the help of hundreds of local volunteers to help us clean the Huron River.  The Huron is a life-blood of the Huron Valley area.  It is the reason Milford was settled, and why we thrive here today.

Once again, this year’s clean-up is all about having FUN while cleaning up our environment!  Families, Individuals, and organizations are invited to learn by doing and to teach others in the process.  The cleanup is done by canoe, so that volunteers can reach virtually all aspects of the river.  Following the clean-up volunteers are invited to enjoy a picnic lunch.  Our canoes, picnic lunch, and prizes for most unusual trash items plucked from the river are generously donated by local businesses, organizations, and community leaders.

So bring your family or group out for an incredible experience!  You'll not only have fun, but you'll be helping to preserve an environmental treasure at the same time.
