Concert poster for a show at the Wooden Nickel

The scenically decrepit Wooden Nickel, late 2012.The Wooden Nickel was a long-time bar on the north side of Eastern Michigan University's campus, at Huron River Drive and Lowell Street. Constructed in the 1970s, the bar went through several changes of ownership before closing in 2007; the last owners of the business, Michael Argiero and John Maniaci, sold the liquor license to Ann Arbor's Bar Louie, and the property owner, Arthur Campbell, sold the land to American Community Properties on Sept. 6, 2007. ACS, the owners of the nearby Peninsular Place apartment complex, purchased the property with the intent of demolishing the building to provide additional parking for that housing. The parking lot never materialized, and the property remains vacant and for sale as of late 2012.
