Peter B. Fletcher (Feb. 29, 1932-Sept. 29, 2012), a lifelong Ypsilantian and the owner of the Credit Bureau of Ypsilanti, was long respected as a leading citizen, despite politics that were unorthodox in the community: he was Republican.

Fletcher hosted Saturday morning forums at the Ypsilanti VFW, bringing together politicos of all stripes from around the area for discussion. His philanthropic work included the founding of the Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Museum.

Active in the Republican National Committee, Fletcher never himself sought legislative office.  He was, however, appointed to the Michigan State Highway Commission and to the Michigan State University Board of Trustees by Gov. William Milliken. Fletcher was highway commissioner when the State of Michigan issued official highway maps that included the fictitious towns of "Goblu, Ohio" and "Beatosu, Ohio".
