Ralph Grimes (? - December 25, 2007) was principal of Ypsilanti High School in 1969 and became superintendent in 1991.

Despite serving during turbulent times in the district, Grimes - who passed away Tuesday - was remembered by his colleagues for his ability to get along with everybody. "There wasn't a guy who was more loved by everyone," said John Fulton, Ypsilanti's current executive director of human resources.

Obituary

Age 71, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2007 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born August 13, 1936 in Adrian, MI, the son of Paul E. and Agatha (Byrd) Grimes. On August 21, 1959, he married Gale Zebbs in Toledo, OH and she survives. Ralph worked for the Ypsilanti Public Schools for 30 years and was a member of the Emanon Club for 20 years. In addition to his loving wife, of 48 years, survivors include: two daughters, Dawn Grimes of Southfield and Robyn (Allen) Cleveland of Ypsilanti; one granddaughter, Breanna; one sister, Barbara (Jerry) Turner of Adrian; two brothers, Richard M. Grimes of Jackson and Nathaniel Grimes of Adrian; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Cremation has taken place. The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Community Church of God, 565 Jefferson in Ypsilanti with Rev. Fred L. Davis officiating.
