South Arbor Charter Academy is a charter school with instruction K-8 located at 8200 Carpenter Rd, Ypsilanti, MI 48197. It is operated by National Heritage Academies and chartered from Central Michigan University.

"The principal of the Washtenaw County charter school where Emma Watson-Nowling attended sent out an email to parents Friday after the 7-year-old was gunned down by a family friend in Taylor Thursday."

Ypsilanti's South Arbor Charter Academy was recently ranked as the seventh highest performing public school in Michigan based on 2009 MEAP results released by the state earlier this month. For the second consecutive year, South Arbor students achieved proficiency ratings above 95 percent in both reading and math. "That result is the fruit of several years of development as a staff and as a school," said South Arbor Principal Tim DiLaura. "We take student achievement data and use it very intentionally to drive instruction and make decisions about what student needs are, what interventions need to be provided, and in which particular academic areas."
