The Common Grill opened in downtown Chelsea in the early '90s, and has come to enjoy a very good reputation. Ann Arbor SPARK's community profile calls the Grill "the definition of an upscale American Bistro," and the restaurant has been honored by the Zagat tourist guide and Gourmet Magazine. Dinner at the Common Grill and a show at the Purple Rose Theater, around the corner is a popular upscale evening for Ann Arborites. The menu is not particularly vegetarian-friendly, though fishitarians will find a wide variety of options.
The Grill's rear entrance is on a municipal parking lot, and offers some menu items for take-out; locals will often pick up a few dozen par-baked dinner rolls for holiday dinners and other special occasions.
Daryl's Downtown, in Jackson, is operated by a former chef from the Common Grill, and features a similar menu; the longer drive is tradeoff for lower sticker shock.
