A proposal for an ordinance that would have required an energy audit when a residential property was sold was briefly considered in 2009 and 2010 in Ann Arbor but never enacted.

Other possibilities include requiring time-of-sale energy audits, so that potential homebuyers could wrap funding for energy improvements into their mortgage; educating the public about renewable energy and energy efficiency measures; and figuring out how to generate more electricity from dams on the Huron River.
