Ypsilanti State Hospital opened in 1931 in buildings designed by Albert Kahn. At its peak in the 1950s it housed more than 4,000 psychiatric patients. The hospital was closed in 1991, and subsequently demolished. The location now is the home of the Toyota Technical Center.
