Indian Rock Park is a really excellent park and look-out point in the Berkeley Hills. There is indeed a large boulder that you can climb on and great views of the Bay. This is a Berkeley classic - a great place to take visitors from out of town (it's especially good at sunset!). It's also a rock climbing spot.

According to this SF Chronicle article:

"Indian Rock Park was a gift to Berkeley from developer, conservationist and climber Duncan McDuffie, who built the Northbrae and Claremont neighborhoods and believed in linking neighborhoods to their natural environment. Steps were carved during Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal years"

The rock itself is volcanic: Northbrae rhyolite.

How to get there

The park is on Indian Rock Avenue between Shattuck Avenue and San Mateo Road.

If you'd like to walk a bit more, there's a cool path (called Indian Rock Path) that you can take from the corner of Solano Ave. & The Alameda. Here's a Google Street View of the path entrance. The path will take you right to Indian Rock.
