Born in the deep South, Columbus, Georgia, Deric Binyon moved to (and was essentially raised in) France... 235 kilometers from Paris. During the 50's his father (Coleman), a well known jazz musician, performed all over Europe, notably Paris (France), Belgium, Amsterdam, and Germany. The guys in Coleman's band would often jam at the Binyon home. Regular musicians in the band included Ed Thigpen (drummer), Max Bennet (bass). Having performed with Ellis Marselis, John Handy, Dave Brubeck, and others... the Binyon household was often filled with great jazz musicians... a normal way of life.

Deric's first 'professional' gigs were in the Los Angeles area. Hired to supplement existing orchestra's (National Youth Symphony) or Big Bands (Lawrence Welk @ Hollywood Palladium) or 'live' radio performances on KMET Los Angeles every Sunday. Additionally, hundreds of casual gigs and special performances at the Hollywood Bowl and Chavez Ravine (later known as 'Dodger Stadium') and recording gigs at Paramount and Hanna Barbera Studios rounded out an early resume of experiences.

The Central Coast of California found Deric establishing 'MIXED COMPANY', a jazz quartet featuring Paul Parrish (bass), who was a well known Grammy-winning composer; Brooke Ivey (drummer); Dave Lingensjo (piano). MIXED COMPANY went on to perform at the World Premier broadcast of KCBX San Luis Obispo; The Russian River and Berkeley Jazz Festivals. Additionally, Deric performed (as trumpet, jazz chair & soloist) at the venerable Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland 1976. Slotted to perform as 'warm-up' band for The Weather Report, featuring Joe Zawinal, Jaco Pastorious, Wayne Shorter, and all the rest. Too cool.

Over the next 30 years, Deric performed alongside some of the World's best jazz musicians: Wynton Marselis, Art Pepper, Steve Allen, Eddie Daniels, Anita O'Day, Ray Brown, Odetta, and so many more.

Now residing in Chico, California, Deric is on a mission to return to Paris on an annual basis... interrupted by short stays in Chico. His last performance in Paris was in August 2007 at Les 7 Lezards and Le Basir Sale, both on the Right Bank of Paris.

Deric can be found performing (occasionally) at the Hotel Diamond, Johnnie's Restaurant on 4th Street in Chico. More recently, Deric performed at the Kit Kat Club in Rancho Cucamunga (Southern California) and was contracted to perform on an independent film soundtrack in Hollywood, California.
