Speedy Burrito is a locally owned Mexican restaurant that is known for it's super-sized burritos. The business was started in the 80s by Bill Caddell and his brother Scott, in a van at the corner of Nord and First Avenues. They soon expanded to a second location downtown in the Phoenix building. One of their claims to fame was Bill Caddell's famous gasless beans. The rumour at the time was that he cooked them with seaweed to achieve the gasless product.
In the 90s, Bill sold his share of the business and moved to Oregon. His brother eventually closed the downtown location and focused his energy on the Nord Ave. store near the Chico State campus.
At present, Speedy Burrito is a regular presence at the Thursday Night Market, where a piping hot street burrito can be had for $4.00.
