The Vertels were a local indie band active in the early 1990s. They released several tapes, including "The Furniture Giant," a tongue-in-cheek reference to a Redding, CA furniture store whose commercials ran frequently on Chico media outlets during the late 1980's and early 1990's. That collection featured the Sean Harasser composed "Virgin Spring", which showcased their firm roots in 1980's jangle pop. They were affiliated with the Devil in the Woods record label. Their name was a reference to musician Steve Vertel.
