The Rub was a roots punk band on the local music scene from 1983 to 1987. Fronted by vocalist/guitar player Heavymetal Mandi and her hot pink Warlock model B.C Rich guitar, the band made up in energy what it lacked in dynamics. In a time when women rockers were still considered an an oddity, Metal M. was scared of no stage, and was intimidated by no men. It was not unusual for her to drop her guitar in the middle of a song and physically eject especially unruly hecklers from their shows.

The band quickly became a local favorite on the street party scene, gigging regularly with local heros The Incredible Diamonds.
