The Nain Rouge (French for Red Dwarf) is a mythical creature that haunts Detroit. According to legend, the creature was attacked by Antoine De La Mothe Cadillac in 1701 and has carried out his revenge by stealing Cadillac's fortune, and has continued to torment the citizens of Detroit ever since. According to legend, he has appeared prior to many great disasters in Detroit's history:

  • In 1763 just prior to the battle of bloodyrun.
  • In 1805 before the great fire
  • In 1812, during the war of 1812, he attacked William Hull.
  • In 1884 he attacked a woman. -In 1967, he was said to have been present at the 12th street riot.
  • In 1976 (Feb. 29th) he was spotted atop a utility pole (one day prior to the -great ice storm of 1976)
  • In March 2010, he was spotted atop the Beethoven Apartments in Cass Corridor, Detroit and was chased down Cass avenue by a 300-person mob. The mob banished him for one year.
