Paradise Valley was a historically black neighborhood located just north of Black Bottom. Urban renewal after World War II lead to its destruction; Hastings Street, the main thoroughfare, is now I-75. The Brewster-Douglass Housing Projects, built in 1952, was adjacent to Hastings.
