Chief of the Detroit Police Department. Follows Warren Evans in the position. Promoted from Assistant Police Chief in September 2010.

Godbee was responsible for the move of the Detroit Police Crime Lab on Brush Street in 2009. In 2011, the Detroit Free Press found the case files, blood samples, testing kits, and live ammunition still in the unsecured building.

Godbee was appointed by Detroit Mayor Dave Bing in 2010 after his predecessor, Warren Evans, was forced to resign, in part, over his romantic relationship with a subordinate.

Godbee was suspended for 30 days and then retired Oct. 8, 2012 amid a scandal involving his relationship with a female officer,  Angelica Robinson, who now works in Internal Affairs.

Godbee, along with the City of Detroit, are being sued by Robinson, who alleges she suffered "... humiliation, embarrassment, loss of earning capacity, emotional distress and physical pain."
