WJBK (Fox 2 Detroit) (RF digital channel 7) is a Fox owned-and-operated television station located in Detroit. The station is owned by the Fox Television Stations subsidiary of 21st Century Fox. WJBK maintains studio and transmitter facilities located on West 9 Mile Road in Southfield.

If you were around in the 1950's, you may remember cowboy cartoon host Sagebrush Shorty, animal show host Bwana Don (played by Don Hunt) and his chimpanzee sidekick Bongo Bailey, Morgus hosted a sci-fi movie showcase while also giving out weather reports, and Dale Young was the host of Detroit Bandstand. National hits carried by WJBK during it's CBS affiliation included I Love Lucy, Gunsmoke, The Beverly Hillbillies, The Andy Griffith Show, All in the Family, Dallas and more.

WJBK started out as a dual CBS/Dumont affiliate, but some years later was completely a CBS affiliate until the dominoes fell on December 11, 1994, and WJBK switched to Fox.

Timeline

1948: Signs on for the first time, owned by Storer Broadcasting. The primary affiliation is with CBS but the station also shows programming from the DuMont Network.
1954: Dumont moves to the new CKLW-TV, leaving the station completely with CBS.
1970: Moves out of studio facilities on Second Avenue to a new building in Southfield.
1985: Sold to the KKR firm.
1987: Purchased by Gillett Communications, which later reorganizes as SCI Television.
1992: CBS Morning News is dropped from the lineup for an all-local morning news program, shortly afterward, Gary Cubberly dies of a heart attack while commuting to his job as an anchor of that program.
1993: Purchased by New World Communications.
1994: CBS programs are dropped all together in favor of joining the Fox network. After CBS fails to reach affiliation deals with nearly all other local stations, the network purchases WGPR-TV. Fox Kids, though, remains on former charter affiliate WKBD.
1995: After years of branding as "TV 2", rebrands as "Fox 2".
1997: Network's then-parent News Corporation purchases New World Communications and the station is now owned and operated by Fox.
1998: Digital transmissions begin.
2009: Analog programming ends.
