Burns about 800,000 tons of trash a year, of which 300,000 is from the City of Detroit. The City was obligated to pay bonds used to finance the construction of the facility and related air-pollution control equipment. Also had to guarantee that the incinerator would get 800,000 tons of trash a year.

June 2009

June 30: City Council passed a resolution instructing city staff to seek an injunction against the continued use of the incenerator. Mayor Dave Bing vetoed the measure.

July 2009

The issue has turned into a problem of government transparency, as no-one outside of the City Council inner circle seems to have an idea of what will happen to it.

City Council authorizes the hiring of to help get an injunction stopping the shipment of (city) garbage to the incinerator.

In mid-July, the Energy Investors Fund of Boston decided to force the City to keep sending trash to the incinerator. A contract obligates the City to comply.

2010

The City agrees to a contract that requires incinerating trash until at least 2021.
