Keuka Lake is located in the heart of the Finger Lakes, with Canandaigua Lake to the west and Seneca Lake to the east. Keuka is unique among the Finger Lakes in that it is shaped like the letter "Y." The name Keuka means "canoe landing" in the Iroquois language and "lake with an elbow" in the Seneca language. It lies In Yates County to the north and Steuben County to the south. At the northeast tip of the lake is the village of Penn Yan, the hamlet of Branchport is at the northwest tip, and the village of Hammondsport is found at the southern end of Keuka. The Keuka Lake Outlet flows from the northeast end of the lake in Penn Yan to Dresden on Seneca Lake. The peninsula between the two northern branches is known as "the bluff."
