Adelaide White Coyne, called Addie, was a well known teacher at the Saranac Lake High School for many years as well as a lifelong resident of the area. She was also secretary of the Tent Platform Association, and had a camp on Rainbow Lake. Her home was at 4 South Hope Street. An estate sale of her property was held at her home on July 1 & 2, 1995.

Adelaide W. Coyne
SARANAC LAKE — Adelaide W. Coyne, of 4 South Hope St, Saranac Lake, died Saturday, July 9, 1994 at the Meadow Brook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.
Born in Saranac Lake, she was the daughter of James E. and Nora (Smith) White.
On July 6, 1942 she married William Coyne in St. Bernard's Church rectory, with the Rev. O'Connor officiating. Mr. Coyne died April 18, 1958.
Mrs. Coyne graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1926, and from Plattsburgh State College with a teaching degree in 1928. She continued her education at Columbia University, where she became a member of the Phi Lambda Theta Honor Society, and at New York University and Rider College, where she took special business courses. Employed as a school teacher for 43 years, Mrs. Coyne was head of the commercial department at the Saranac Lake High School, teaching shorthand and typing.
She was a New York State Civil Service Examiner for 32 years; a member of the New York State Teachers Association; past president of the Saranac Lake Teachers Association; vice president of Teachers Northern Zone at Potsdam; a member and past Noble Grand and past district president of the Rebekahs; member of the Eastern Star, order of the Amaranth; and member of the Ladies of the Elks and Ladies Bowling League. She also was an avid outdoorsperson.
Survivors include a niece, Carol Straton of Uniontown, Ohio; and a nephew, James White of Leictester, Mass. She was predeceased by a brother, James White.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Lowenthal of the First United Methodist Church of Saranac Lake officiating. Interment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Saranac Lake Free Library or the First United Methodist Church of Saranac Lake in care of the funeral home.
