Albert H. Denny, Former Jeweler, Dies on Saturday

Albert Hampten Denny, 78, of 82 Bloomingdale avenue, a leading jeweler of this village for many years, passed away Saturday evening at 9:30 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Gillen, of Greenfield, Mass.

Mr. Denny had left this village in the fall to spend the winter months with his daughter. He was stricken ill a week ago and his death was attributed to a heart condition.

The body is expected to arrive here this evening and will repose at the Keough Memorial chapel. Funeral services are expected to take place Wednesday. Details are incomplete pending the arrival of Mrs. Gillen tonight.

Mr. Denny was born on June 22, 1869 in Chislehurst, Kent, England. When a year old, his family brought him to Canada and at the age of 18 he came to the United States to live.

Forty-two years ago he came to Saranac Lake from Warren, O., and in 1909 he opened jewelry business in this village. He operated Denny's Jewelry store at 62 Main street until last February when he sold the business to John A. Bazinet of Massena, a former resident of Saranac Lake.

Mr. Denny operated his store in the same building in which he first opened his business during this long period of time. He also was responsible for the development of an attractive park at the corner of Bloomingdale avenue and Pine street.

On Feb. 16, 1915 Mr. Denny married Helen Mulcahy. The wedding was solemnized here by the late Rev. Father Waters. Mrs. Denny, a nurse, worked with the late Dr. Edward L. Trudeau caring for many of his patients.

One daughter, Mrs. Gillen, and several grandchildren survive.
