Ann Packard Ladd was born in Saranac Lake, a daughter of Dr. Edward N. Packard and Mary Bissell Betts Packard. Growing up she was a friend and neighbor of Nancy Connely. As teenagers the two visited Dick Ray at the Trudeau Sanatorium and at the Ray Brook State Hospital; they are pictured on pages 30 and 34 in Ray's book, Saranac, 1937-1940. Ann Packard of 142 Park Avenue is pictured in the 1938 Canaras as a graduating senior at Saranac Lake High School; she graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1939, and from Wellesley College in 1944. She is buried in the family plot in Pine Ridge Cemetery.

Easton, Md. -- Ann Ladd died on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 in Easton, Md. She was 86.
She was born to the late Dr. Edward N. Packard and Mary Bissel Betts Packard Sept. 6, 1922 in Saranac Lake, where she was schooled, graduating from Saranac Lake High School in the spring of 1939.
Ann Ladd then graduated from Wellesley College in the spring of 1944. Ann moved to Washington, D.C. upon graduating from college to work with the Macy's Department Store training squad.
Ann met Dr. Anthony T. Ladd and the two were married in March of 1956. Ann resided with her loving husband in Syracuse, N.Y. from 1956 until 1970, whereupon the couple moved to Charleston, S.C.
In the spring of 1984, Ann and Tony Ladd moved to the shores of Trippe Creek in Oxford, Md. Dr. Ladd died on Christmas Eve 1996. Ann continued to live on Trippe Creek until moving to the William Hill Manor in 2005.
Ann Ladd was active in the community with memberships in the Harbor Club and in the Talbot Country Club.
Ann Ladd was active in the Red Cross, the League of Women Voters, the Gray Ladies and the Wellesley Club.
Ann Ladd is survived by a son, Robert Anthony Ladd, of Annapolis, Md.; a daughter, Sarah Meiklejohn, of Granville, Mass.; a brother, Dr. John M. Packard, of Birmingham, Ala.; a grandson, Anthony Meiklejohn; and a granddaughter, Katherine Meiklejohn.
A service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 3 at the All Faith Chapel in Tunis Mills where friends may call one hour prior.
Burial will follow on Monday, June 8 in Saranac Lake.
