Anthony Treybal came to Saranac Lake from Queens, New York, for "the cure" in 1929; it was unsuccessful, and he returned to Queens in 1934 and died the following year.

A January 4, 1935, letter from William Treybal to his 13-year-old daughter Marian, courtesy of Helen Rydell:

My dearest Marian

I was indeed very happy to receive your nice letter. I have been thinking of you so much lately.

It is very cold up here, -30 degrees below this morning and we have over a foot of snow. It is

really too cold to be comfortable. I’ll be happy when the Spring and Summer will be here.

There will be a special excursion train coming up to Saranac on Lincoln or Washington’s

Birthday and if it’s not too cold I would be most happy to see you, Mother and Helen. There are

several skating rinks and a big toboggan run over near the High School which is open to the

public, and I think you and Helen would get quite a thrill going down on it. Out at Lake Placid

they have a Bob Sled run about 1 1/2 miles long, plenty of curves, and a ride usually takes

about 4 minutes, and that’s plenty fast. Do you keep up your stamp album? Mother has been

writing me about your going to Northfield in the Fall,—I think dear you will like it. It has been so

long dear since I saw you last, and dear, I’ll be happy to see how my baby has grown. Tell

Helen I’ll write her in a day or so—she too is my dearest baby and I love you both dearly.

Love my dear Dad
