Sudden Death of Arnie Cohen Shocks Village
Arnie Cohen, member of the firm of D. Cohen and Sons, Inc., with hardware stores in Saranac Lake and Bloomingdale, died suddenly at 10:30 this morning at Paul Smiths College while visiting the president Chester L. Buxton.
His death shocked the entire community.
Mr. Cohen and another business representative called on Mr. Buxton early in the day. Mr. Cohen complained of a pain in his chest which had annoyed him all night. He mentioned that he had not seen a doctor and finally excused himself from the room.
After Mr. Cohen had been gone for some time the party decided to look for him. They searched the campus and could not find him. They checked the men's room about 11:30 a.m. and discovered him on the floor.
The men were forced to remove the door to the room as he had fallen in front of the entrance.
Dr. Harold Greenier, of Bloomingdale, was summoned immediately but Mr. Cohen was pronounced dead on the doctor's arrival. Dr. Greenier notified the family.
Mr. Cohen's body was taken to the Currier Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Cohen represented the Cohen Hardware firm in the area of Tahawus, Long Lake and Star Lake. He traveled a great deal in the North Country.
Funeral services are incomplete.
Mr. Cohen, who was unmarried, made his home in Bloomingdale.
He is survived by three brothers, Max, Snair and Louis, all of Saranac Lake, and three sisters, Mrs. Irving Krinovitz, of Saranac Lake, Mrs. Elizabeth Hillowitz, of Lyndhurst, L. I., and Mrs. Nathan Michaelman, of the Bronx, New York City.
