Drawing of sugar bowl from Art Buck's cabin, included in letter from Nancy ForbesThe following is a letter received by HSL from Nancy Forbes, May 16, 2020

Reading the piece about the Post Office Pharmacy in your recent newsletter reminded me of my parents' friendship with Art Buck, the pharmacist, and his wife, Dot. I last chatted with Art on the day of Dad's [Dorchester Everett] funeral in 1978.

Art was the owner or part owner of a tiny cabin located in Franklin Falls where the woods were so dense one had to keep an eye on the roof of the cabin to avoid getting lost. I think it was property that one of the big paper companies leased in those days. My dad enjoyed the comradery of spending time there during hunting season. Women seldom visited the cabin but I did have the opportunity a couple times.

I remember being impressed that the men used china dishes and real silverware!

One day, my dad informed me that a bear had pushed it's way through one of the cabin's tar papered walls, managing to destroy much of it's interior, along with the china. However, a sugar bowl remained intact. Guess who became the recipient of the sugar bowl! It has resided with me ever since.

Sincerely, Nancy Forbes
