Avery Hazzard (also spelled Hazard) was an early resident of Bloomingdale, having acquired one of Gerrit Smith's 40 acre lots c. 1850.  He was a son of a Revolutionary War soldier, Charles Henry Hazard.

His son, Alexander, was one of the founders of the Brookside Cemetery in Bloomingdale, where he is buried.

The 1860 U. S. Census has the black farmer Avery and family living in St. Armand.

Gerrit Smith granted him Lot 32 SE in North Elba but instead he settled on Lot 87 in Saint Armand.

He was living in a log house with c. 160 acre farm, c. 1851.

Charles Cassavaugh's family got it from the Hazzard family c. 1906-1907.

Julie Walsh and Kevin Taylor own the property now.
