Benjamin Baker, a well-known young man of Saranac Lake, who, with Joseph Barnard, conducted a skating rink in Malone last winter, was drowned Saturday in Lake Flower, at Saranac Lake. He had been out fishing with his father, Joseph Baker, and on their return home it was necessary to cross Lake Flower, which had frozen over during their absence, so they decided to walk along on the ice and shove their boat ahead of them. When out some distance the ice gave way precipitating both into the water, their boat overturned and the young man sank immediately, but his father hung to the boat till rescued in an unconscious condition. The young man's body was recovered in about 20 minutes, but all efforts to resuscitate him proved of no avail.
