Benjamin R. Simcox, formerly a resident of Malone, where for several years he acted as surrogate's clerk in the office of Judge Beman, died at his home in the town of Harrietstown, near Saranac Lake, last Saturday evening. Mr. Simcox had long been a great sufferer from lung trouble and came from New York to the Adirondacks a number of years ago in the hope of effecting a cure. He practiced law at Saranac Lake before accepting the appointment of surrogate's clerk, and his retirement from the latter position two years ago was on account of ill health. He returned to Harrietstown and the invigorating air of the woods again brought renewed strength for a time, but the insidious disease from which he suffered was slowly undermining health and strength and severe hemorrhages, which occurred early last week, brought the end of the long struggle which had been bravely and patiently made by the young man. Mr. Simcox was a graduate of Dartmouth College, a man of more than ordinary ability and a genial and kindly friend and companion. His age was about 36 years.
