Canaras Avenue runs from Petrova Avenue north across the George LaPan Highway to the end of Olive Street, where it turns west toward the new Saranac Lake High School. Canaras was originally South Hope Street. "Canaras" is Saranac spelled backwards.

4 South Hope Street (old address, near the intersection with Petrova Avenue) was the residence of Adelaide Coyne, called Addie by her friends. Mrs. Coyne was a well known teacher at the Saranac Lake High School for many years as well as a lifelong resident of the area. An estate sale of her property was held on July 1 & 2, 1995.
