Charles H. Goldsmith was the son of Aaron Goldsmith. He took over A. Goldsmith and Son dry goods from his father and then bought the building from the Miller Estate in December, 1921. But he was not the businessman that his father was, and by October 1931, the store went into bankruptcy.

He was appointed supervisor of Franklin County Census enumerators in 1915.  He was named Grand Knight of the Saranac Lake Council of the Knights of Columbus in 1918. He served as secretary and treasurer of the Adirondack Skating Association in 1923 and as president in 1925. He was elected captain of the Woodruff Hose Company in 1924. In 1937, he served as Winter Sports Director for the Village of Saranac Lake.
