Reginald 'Dick' DeSantis owned and operated the Riverside Bar and Grill for several years, and later operated a barbershop in the Hotel Saranac.

Reginald 'Dick' DeSantis

SARANAC LAKE - Reginald "Dick" DeSantis, 83, formerly of Saranac Lake, died Sunday, May 29, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Watertown.

He was born Feb. 7, 1905, in Catskill, the son of Dominic and Mary (Leone) DeSantis.

He came to Saranac Lake in 1924 for health reasons and owned and operated the Riverside Bar and Grill for a number of years. Prior to retiring, he operated a barbershop in the Hotel Saranac.

On June 16, 1928, Mr. DeSantis married the former Alice Callan. She died Oct. 15, 1982.

He was a member of Council #599 of the Knights of Columbus and the Bishop Gabriels General Assembly Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus.

He also was a member and past exalted ruler of the Benevolent and Protected Order of the Elks, Lodge #1508.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Peter (Kathleen) O'Brien of Watertown, with whom Mr. DeSantis made his home; a half sister, Catherine Haeussler of Athens; two half brothers, Dominic and Joseph DeSantis, both of Catskill; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Calling hours were scheduled to take place from 10 to 11 a.m. today at the Keough and Son Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial was to be said at 11:15 a.m. today at St. Bernard's Church, with the Rev. Kevin O'Brien officiating. Burial is in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

Donations in Mr. DeSantis's memory may be made to the Saranac Lake Adult Center or St. Bernard's Church in care of the funeral home.
