Eugene Wait Keet moved to Saranac Lake about 1890. "He owned the Keet Building at 47-49 Broadway where he held court, made bicycles, fixed harnesses and told tall tales. He once had to fine himself for poaching, there being no other local justice." 1

Death Claims Eugene Keet at Harrietstown

Eugene Keet, justice of the peace at Harrietstown. died at 6:40 o’clock Saturday night at his home in Saranac Lake. He was 72 years of age.

He underwent an operation in a Jamaica hospital on April 9. Although he recovered sufficiently to return to his home, his health failed gradually. Mr. Keet was one of the best-known residents of this section of the Adirondacks. For many years he operated harness shop on Broadway, Saranac Lake. He was noted for his native wit and natural philosophy.
