Fred Bernhardt Roedel's family moved to Clifton, New Jersey in 1900. He became an American citizen on March 2, 1907. Mr. Roedel cured in Saranac Lake for about 3 years. He lived at 93 Riverside Drive, later the home of the Levy family. He attended Saint Lawrence University after his cure and graduated in 1925 with a degree in agriculture. He then started a large poultry farm in Paramus, New Jersey with a particular interest in developing a better strain of laying hens.
In 1929 he married Pearl Maria Gould. In 1960, their son, Fred Roedel married Katherine Leetch, daughter of Dr. Henry Leetch of Saranac Lake.
