Mrs. Francis Barry Cantwell died early Tuesday morning, the 16th of October, at Saranac Lake General Hospital where she had been a patient since September 12, 1962. Mrs. Cantwell was born Genevieve Godfrey in Brooklyn, New York, February 17, 1885, a daughter of William Henry Godfrey and Anne Judd Godfrey. She was graduated from private schools in the State of Virginia and moved to Saranac Lake in 1913 where she operated a floral shop in the Hotel Berkeley. On June 15, 1914, she was married to Francis Barry Cantwell, after which the couple set about building and operating the Old Military Estates located between Old Military Road and Bloomingdale Avenue.
Mrs. Cantwell was organizer of the St. Luke's Episcopal Church Boys Choir, a member of the order of the Eastern Star, a Village Improvement Society, the Saranac Lake General Hospital Women's Auxiliary, and was a charter member of the League of Women Voters in the State of New York.
In 1932 Mrs. Cantwell served as the Welfare Officer for the Town of St. Armand, Essex County, and continued for two terms in office.
Survivors include her brother, Mr. Alfred F. Seaman, of St. Petersburg, Florida, her husband, Francis Barry Cantwell, attorney of Saranac Lake; two sons, Thomas Barry Cantwell of Saranac Lake and William P. Cantwell of Denver, Colorado, also attorneys. Also by ten grandchildren, and three nephews, George Seaman Alfred Seaman, and Robert Seaman, all of Long Island, New York.
Mrs. Cantwell will repose at the Fortune Funeral Home until 1 p. m. Friday.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of St. Luke's The Beloved Physician at 2:00 p. m. Friday, October 19. Rev. Peter O.W. Hill, rector of the Episcopal Church will officiate. Interment will be in Morningside Cemetery, in the family plot at 4 p.m.
