Hosea B. Colbath was listed as a guide in the 1906 Adirondack Directory. He served as Village Commissioner in 1899. 1 He owned a cottage on River Street that is known as the Colbath Cottage.

HOSEA B. COLBATH DIES
Saranac Lake Pioneer and Famous Adirondack Guide.
Hosea B. Colbath, one of the pioneer settlers of Saranac Lake and a guide with a reputation second to none in the Adirondacks, died this morning at his home on River street shortly after nine o’clock. Had he lived until October, he would have been 84 years old. He was born in Exeter, Maine, and came to Saranac Lake when a young man of 20. In 1867 he married Miss Kate W. Reynolds, a local resident, who survives him. Three children, two sons and a daughter were born to them two of whom, a daughter, Mrs. John Boyer, a son, Fred Colbath, survive. The first born child, Robert Colbath, died several years ago. The iron constitution which aided Hosea Colbath to fame as a guide and woodsman stood him in good stead during the last few months, but in spite of his rugged strength he was not able to survive a second stroke of paralysis which he suffered a short time ago. This and old age caused his death. No definite funeral arrangements have been made at this hour, but it is know that the Masons will be in charge, the deceased being a member of that order.
