Sad Death of Isaac Chesley
Isaac Chesley, who met his death while assisting in removing the contents of the Farmers' National Bank, on Sunday morning last, by the explosion and blowing out of the walls over the bank, was a man much respected and loved by all who knew him, as an upright and honest citizen. He was born in Cornwall, Ont., and came to Malone when quite young and served as clerk with different firms doing business here. He finally went into business for himself as member of the firm of Hale, Chesley & Hoit, and about ten or twelve years ago he closed out his mercantile business in Malone and opened a store at Bloomingdale, where he was doing business at the time of his death. He has been connected with "Ralph's" summer hotel at Chateaugay Lake for the past two seasons, and last fall disposed of his interest in the hotel to his brother-in-law, Warren J. Hutton.
Mr. Chesley was an energetic and successful business man and a broad and liberal minded citizen; a prince of good fellows and it may be doubted if he had an enemy. He was about 51 years old and leaves a wife and two beautiful daughters to mourn his loss, besides a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. His funeral was held at his late residence on Washington St., on Thursday afternoon, and to show in what respect he was held by the people of Malone the stores and places of business were closed during the funeral services.
