Ivy Little Kirkendall operated the Ampersand Hotel property as a cabin complex with her husband for many years. The Littles lived at 17 St. Bernard Street.

PAUL SMITHS - Ivy Little Kirkendall, 98, of Utica, died Thursday, May 5, 2005 at the Masonic Care Community in 'Utica.

Born on April 8, 1907 in Catfield, England, she was the daughter of Charles and Mable (Page) Cordwell.

Ivy married Walter Little in 1945 and together they owned and operated the Ampersand Hotel in Saranac Lake for many years. Mr. Little died in 1960 and Ivy sold the hotel at that time. In 1967, she married J. Harmon Kirkendall, and they spent their winters in Troy and their summers in Saranac Lake. In 1992, they moved to Utica and lived in the Masonic Care Community.

Ivy is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Judy George of Wichita, Kan., and several close friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Harmon in 2002; her parents; and her brother and sister.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4 at St. John's Cemetery in Paul Smiths with the Rev. Frederick Dennis officiating.

Friends wishing to remember Ivy may make memorial contributions to the Church of St. Luke the Beloved Physician in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake.
