Mrs. Josephine Smithwick, 72, died last night at her home at 60 Park avenue following an illness of several years.
Mrs. Smithwick had operated a private sanatorium at 60 Park avenue.

HIGH MASS 9:30 TOMORROW FOR LOCAL RESIDENT
A solemn high Mass for Mrs. Josephine Garity Smithwick, 72, who died at her home, 60 Park avenue, Tuesday evening following an illness of five years, will be held at 9:30 o'clock tomorrow morning in St. Bernard's church.
The body will be shipped to Elmhurst, L. I, where interment will take place at 11:30 Saturday morning in St. John's cemetery. The body will repose at the Reinhold A. Skelton funeral parlors in Elmhurst until the time of burial Saturday.
Members of the Court St. Bernard, Catholic Daughters of America, with which Mrs. Smithwick was actively associated during her lifetime, will hold "The Rosary" service at the home, 60 Park avenue, this evening.
The Court will also form an honor guard at the funeral tomorrow. Pall bearers will include Thomas and Daniel Ward, Dr. J. N. Hayes, Hubert O'Connell, John Gutshow and Charles Saumier.
Mrs. Smithwick was born Josephine Garity, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Garity. She was married April 18, 1906 in Elmhurst to Michael J. Smithwick. The couple had one daughter, Gertrude, who survives and will continue to make her home in Saranac, Lake.
The couple came to Saranac Lake in 1912 for Mr. Smithwick's health, residing on Park avenue, Park Place and Helen street, before Mr. Smithwick built the present home at 60 Park avenue in 1917.
Mrs. Smithwick has since operated a private nursing sanatorium at that address. Mr. Smithwick died in 1918. Mrs. Smithwick, a member of the local court, Catholic Daughters of America, and a communicant of St. Bernard's church, was keenly interested in all local charities and contributed generously to many worthy causes.
Besides her daughter, Miss Gertrude Smithwick of this village, she is survived by a sister, Mrs. William Burke of Maspeth, L. I., and two nephews, Bernard Burke and William Garity.
Mr. and Mrs. Burke, their son and Mr. Garity arrived yester-day in Saranac Lake. Other relatives are expected to arrive today to attend the funeral services.

BURIAL RITES ARE TODAY FOR LOCAL RESIDENT
(Special to the Daily Enterprise) ELMHURST, L. I., Dec, 4 Committal services and interment for Mrs. Josephine Garity Smithwick, who died Tuesday at her home in Saranac Lake, were held at 11:30 o'clock this morning from the Reinhold A. Skelton funeral home with burial in St. John's cemetery.
Funeral services were held at 9:30 o'clock yesterday morning in St. Bernard's church, Saranac Lake. The solemn high Mass of Requiem, was sung by the Rev. Henry McFadden assisted by Father Eugene as deacon and the Rev. John Wiley, sub-deacon.
Music during the service was played by Miss Jane Morgan, church organist, and soloists were Mrs. Joseph Foley and Robert Munn of Saranac Lake.
Pall bearers at the funeral in Saranac Lake included Thomas P. Ward, Dr. John Hayes, Hubert O'Connell, John Gutshaw, Charles Soini and Philip Collins.
