A graduate of the Bellevue School of Nursing in New York City, Juanita Hayman, known as Nita, came to Trudeau Sanatorium for her health while still a young woman. Following her cure, she began a nursing career in the area that saw her serve first at the Trudeau Sanatorium, where she met her husband-to-be when he arrived as a new patient. Later she worked as doctor's nurse for Drs. Woodruff, Merkel and Decker. Following her retirement from nursing, she worked with her husband in the local family business, the Ed Worthington Co.

SARANAC LAKE — Juanita Hayman Worthington, 80, of 50 Petrova Avenue, a resident of Saranac Lake for more than 50 years, died at her home Thursday evening, May 18, following a long illness.

She was born Oct. 11, 1908, in Truro, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Gordon Jasper and Miriam (Waller) Hayman.
A graduate of the Bellevue School of Nursing in New York City, she came to Saranac Lake's Trudeau Sanitarium for her health while still a young woman. Following her cure, she began a nursing career in the area that saw her serve first at the Trudeau Sanitarium and later as, doctor's nurse for Drs. Woodruff, Merkel and Decker.
Following her retirement from nursing, she worked with her husband in the local family business, the Ed Worthington Co. Mrs. Worthington was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Saranac Lake, the Bellevue Alumni Association and Historic Saranac Lake.
She is survived by her husband of more than 51 years, Edward H. Worthington Jr. They were married in Montreal, Quebec, on Sept. 1, 1937.
Also surviving are a daughter, Janet W. Dudones of Saranac Lake, and two grandchildren, Jennifer and David, both of Saranac Lake, as well as nieces, nephews and a sister-in-law, all in Canada.
Funeral Services will be said at 1 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church of Saranac Lake with the Rev. James Mechem, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, and Rev. Philip Snyder, former rector of St. Luke's Church, officiating. Family will also receive friends after the Services in the Great Hall of the First Presbyterian Church here.
Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery.
Those wishing to remember Mrs. Worthington may make donations in her memory to the First Presbyterian Church or Historic Saranac Lake.
