SARANAC LAKE - Mrs. Katherine C. Starks, 80, died Saturday at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid.

Mrs. Starks was born in Saranac Lake, a daughter of Patrick and Anna Finnegan Carey. She was employed and active in the George L. Starks Hardware Co. for many years. On June 9, 1941, she married George Starks who died in September, 1946.

Mrs. Starks was active in St. Bernard's Church affairs, was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, and was instrumental in establishing the Carmelite Monastery in Saranac Lake. In later years she was mainly interested in and devoted to the Carmelites.

Survivors are a brother, Henry A. Carey of Ithaca; a nephew, Henry A. Carey, Jr. of Portland, Ore.; two nieces, Mrs. Jarnes (Jean) Buckley of Holly, Mich, and Mrs. Henry (Rita) Guriac[?] of Ithaca; and many cousins.

Friends may call at the Keough and Son Memorial Chapels. A Bible Vigil will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at 10 am. Wednesday at St. Bernards Church. Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Keeseville.
