LEWIS E. WHEAT DIED SATURDAY
Lewis E. Wheat, 60, who was taken to the Saranac Lake General Hospital last Friday following a heart attack, died Saturday at 9 p.m.
A resident of Saranac Lake for the past thirty years, Mr. Wheat was a partner in the Main Line Garage on River Street. He made his home at 217 Lake Street.
Born on July 14, 1897 in Venice, N.Y., the son of John and Wealtha Signor Wheat, Mr. Wheat was a mechanic by trade and had worked for the A.F. Short Garage, the Bellows Garage and finally became associated with Les Carr and Halsey Barber at the Main Line Garage. He was married to the former Sue Williams December 29,1915.
A veteran of World War II as a gunnery officer in the U.S. Navy, he is survived by his wife, a brother Dr. J. Chase Wheat of Syracuse and several nieces and nephews. The body reposes at the Fortune Funeral Home where the Odd Fellows will give a service at 8 pm. today followed by an American Legion service at 8:30 p.m. and a Masonic service at 9 o'clock.
Funeral services will be given at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Fortune Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in the Pine Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. Wheat was a member of the Wanneta and Whiteface Mountain Chapters of the Masons, of the Odd Fellows, of which he was a Past Grand and Past District Deputy Grand Master, of the American Legion, and he was Royal Patron of the Court of the Amaranth.
