The Lillia Babbitt Hyde Foundation was established in 1924 by Lillia Babbitt Hyde, who was widowed at age 62. She served as its first president until her death in 1939. Charles C. Harris became president of the foundation in 1940, and served until his death in 1959. The foundation paid for the enlargement of the Men's Ward of the Saranac Lake General Hospital in 1941.
