SARANAC LAKE — Marion J. Griebsch, 82, of 11 Woodycrest Road, Saranac Lake, died Wednesday, October 11, 2000 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born Dec. 28, 1917 in Saranac Lake, she was a daughter of Clarence and Julia (Rosenquist) Hemmingway.

A lifelong resident of Saranac Lake, Mrs. Griebsch was employed as a medical secretary and medical records librarian at the Saranac Lake General Hospital for many years, retiring in 1965. From 1965 until 1975, she was employed as court clerk for the village of Saranac Lake and the town of Harrietstown. As an accomplished artist, she was known for her work in oils, acrylic, watercolors and pastels. She was a volunteer and exhibitor at the Paint and Palette Festival. She was a member of the PTA and worked on various float committees for the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher. She was also a Cub Scout den mother for several years.

Survivors include her husband Karl Griebsch, whom she married on Feb. 10, 1943; two sons, John Griebsch of Poultneyville and James Griebsch of Boston, Mass., a daughter, Mrs. Nancy Diane Barrett and her husband Neal, of Rochester, one granddaughter, Alyssa Barrett and one grandson, Alexei Griebsch.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, at Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a m on Saturday, at the funeral home with Rev. William Neil, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Harrietstown Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to High Peaks Hospice in care of the funeral home.
