Mary Hill was the manager of Altman's Clothing Store; she was also the chairman of the Saranac Lake Chamber of Commerce Retail Merchants Association.

Mary Hill

SARANAC LAKE — Mrs. Mary D. Hill, 67, of 70 Park Avenue died Sunday afternoon at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake. She had been a resident of Saranac Lake for more than 40 years.

Mrs. Hill had been the manager of Altman's Clothing Store for 40 years.

She was born in Hudson Falls the daughter of William Dwyer and Helen Hyde. Mrs. Hill had been very active in community affairs and was past president of the Saranac Lake Golf Club, past president of the Business and Professional Women's Club, past president of the Women's College Club, a member of the Retail Merchant's Association, active in the American Cancer Society, one of the original organizers of Teen Canteen, a member of the Saranac Lake Pee Wee Hockey Association, and a member of St. Bernard's Choir and liturgy committee.

She was a graduate of the Lake Placid high school and the Crane Institute of Music. She is survived by her husband, Harold L. Hill; two daughters, Mrs. Lynda Mary Dukett and Mrs. Lucille Duprey, both of Saranac Lake; one sister, Mrs. Helen Clemens of Rome, nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her daughter, Lauretta, died in 1966.

Mrs. Hill will repose at the Keough and Son Memorial Chapels, where friends may call at 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. There will be a Bible vigil at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Thomas Driscoll officiating.

Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Lake Placid.

Friends wishing to remember Mrs. Hill may make contributions to the American Cancer Society, or the Saranac Lake Arena drive.
