UPPER SARANAC LAKE was the scene of a tragic winter sports accident that week. Nathan Shelley, president of the Shelley Tool Co., was killed instantly and his sister-in-law, Mrs. John Shelley, died an hour later of injuries received while tobogganing near Coreys. The slide, reportedly 2,000 feet long, was located near the Adolph Lewisohn camp, descending a steep embankment to the lake. The Shelley party had motored from Saranac Lake for an outing on the big slide. Their toboggan, traveling at great speed, had just reached the foot of the slope when it hurtled out of the slide and overturned, flinging the passengers with tremendous force out on the ice-covered lake.
