Many friends in Franklin county, and especially among the teachers, will deeply regret to learn of the death of M. Ralph Baker, formerly a teacher in the Saranac Lake Academy, of typhoid fever at the home of his parents at Saranac Lake last Thursday, April 18th Mr. Baker was an extremely promising young man and when stricken with the illness which proved fatal was a student at Union College. He was generally known throughout this and Clinton counties and was popular wherever known. He entered the Plattsburgh Academy in the fall of 1887 and graduated in the class of '91. The next year he became a student at the Plattsburgh Normal school, taking a two years' course in one, graduating with the class of '92. He then became a teacher in the Saranac Lake Academy, resigning in the fall of 1894 to enter Union College, where he intended taking a four years' course in three years, when he was to take a course at the Albany law school with the intention of making the profession of a lawyer his life work. That a brilliant future awaited him in that profession, had he lived, was the hope and belief of all who were familiar with his talent and ability.
