Monroe J. Gladd was associated with the Gladd car dealership in Saranac Lake. He was the original owner of Little Joe's bar on Main Street, that his son, Joe, operated after 1959.

SARANAC LAKE - Monroe J. Gladd, 74, of 293 Broadway, Saranac Lake, died Saturday afternoon in the Saranac Lake General Hospital.
He was born May 12, 1902 in Bloomingdale, the son of Joseph and Minnie Gerdo Gladd. He was a life member of Elks Lodge 1508 in Saranac Lake, and a retired member of the Saranac Lake Fire Department.
He was associated with the Gladd car dealership in Saranac Lake, and continued to be so after his retirement. During World War II, he and his brothers operated a defense plant employing over 200 people.
He is survived by his wife, the former Thelma Martin; six sons, all of Saranac Lake - Joseph, Eugene, George, Pete, William, and Monroe F.; two daughters — Mrs. Dorothy Davis, Bellevue, Wash., and Mrs. Elizabeth English, Enfield, Conn.; three brothers — Richard, of Saranac Lake, Lee, Lake Clear, and Millard, Greensboro, N.C.; one sister — Mrs. Emma Zeno, Bellows Falls, Vt.; 29 grandchildren seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a Firemen's Service this evening at the Fortune Funeral Home at 7:15, followed by Elks Service at 7:30. There will be a Bible Vigil after that.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be said tomorrow morning at 9:30 at St. Bernard's Church with Father C.J. McAvoy and Rev. Eric King officiating. Interment will be in the Franklin Falls Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held this afternoon and evening at the Fortune Funeral Home.
Friends wishing to remember Mr. Gladd are asked to make donations to the Saranac Lake Rescue Squad.

Monroe Gladd Named Association Secretary

Monroe Gladd, prominent Saranac Lake businessman, was elected secretary of the Ford Dealers Association of the Green Island district at a recent meeting in Albany. Approximately 140 distributors in upstate New York, Massachusetts and Vermont are members of the association.
Mr. Gladd, and his brothers Richard and Lee Gladd are the largest distributors of Fords, Lincoln Zephyrs and Mercurys in Northern New York. The Gladd Brothers showroom and garage is located on Upper Broadway.
